Illegal Drugs, a General Statement I worked as a Member of the House Appropriations Committee to fund $1 million to help hard-pressed local, state and federal authorities combat the growing plague of clandestine methamphetamine labs in East Tennessee. I listened to law enforcement officials say that the methamphetamine problem is growing at a staggering rate. The point was really driven home when a newspaper editor in an outlying county in my district reported to us that labs have been set up on the very same block where the editor lives!!! I went back to Washington and used my seat on the Commerce, Justice, State and Judiciary Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee to do something about it.
